I thought I would try something a little different with my latest terrain setup. I'm always looking to perfect my terrain, so I thought I would post a bunch of pictures and invite people to give constructive feedback -- what do you like? What do you not like? How could I make the terrain better (more realistic)?
But remember, the terrain also has to be playable, meaning there is room for the troops!
One note for the photos below -- there are two bridges (actually three, but one starts as wrecked) that are not pictured. I had them on the painting table when I took these photos, forgetting to put them back. They are nothing special -- just a bunch of boards glued to some runners. They are actually my bridge sections for my pontoon unit, but work as simple plank bridges for this battlefield. So if you see roads ending at a river and starting on the other side, you can safely assume there will be a bridge there.

PHOTO 3 Not sure why this one came out so yellow. Fields, a stream and some forest - plus one of the many roads. |

OK, this isn't a closeup of the board, but it is what I found in my backyard when I took my dog out to play this afternoon. She's at the base of one of my big oak trees. My Boston Terrier went zipping right by her and never noticed. I kept her away after that, but she lay completely still. The mother will push her down into the weeds or some other "safe" spot and go off eating for the day, picking her up later. I could get within 5 feet before it would even flick an ear at me, but I was afraid I would scare it off, so moved away. Based on how vivid her spots are and how small she is, I don't think she's very old -- maybe just a few days. |
So what do you think of the terrain? Where can I improve? Suggestions? (Remember -- must be playable!)
